Legacy Project

Sep 28, 2021

Northward Housing held a Green Day event on the 31st July at Exbridge Walk, Newton Heath.

Emanuel Whittaker has pledged to carry out Legacy Projects as a result of carrying out the Low Rise FRA project.

Our first legacy project was to work with the Community Garden Group at 19 Exbridge Walk.

The rear garden had become overgrown and the communal area at the side was unkempt with timber planters, lawns and shrubs in need of a little TLC.

Emanuel Whittaker Contracts Manager, Greg Martin, visited the site and agreed with Marlene at the Eco Youth Centre that we would clear the rear Garden area, cut back bushes, in effect re-claiming the garden whilst also improving the communal space ready for the 31st July festivities.

You can see from our before and after shots how successful the Legacy Project has been.

Since 2002, Marlene has run ‘Eco Youth’ – a group for local children to get involved with gardening and other activities, has worked closely with us and Northwards Housing on this project. Marlene commented – Thank you so much for the transformation of the community garden, we were able to hold a fun day on the green and the residents all commented on how nice it looks. We had approximately 150 attend, and a good time was had by all. Once again, thank you to Contracts Director John Gallagher and all at Emanuel Whittaker, as well as Scott and Mathew the gardeners from Bradley Green Tree and Garden Services.”
