Rachel Howarth 1We’ve have had a great deal to celebrate recently. Twenty five year old Rachel Howarth made history after she became the first in the country to achieve a brand new qualification, an NVQ Level 3 in External Wall Insulation. The qualification addresses a skills gap within the construction industry, as before its creation, there was no available progression route for Apprentices completing the Level 2 qualification.  It’s no surprise that Rachel has become the first to qualify.  Throughout her career with us she has been keen to develop and learn new skills and we are delighted with her success.

Emanuel Whittaker gets a gold

Rachel is not the only staff member that has done us proud.  All of our 125 employees deserve a pat on the back after we were awarded the Investors in People Gold standard.  Investors in People is a management framework for high performance through people. Its prestigious accreditation is recognised across the world as a mark of excellence and it champions best practice in people management. Susan Holt, the assessor from Investors in People said: “Emanuel Whittaker achieved its goals through its positive and consistent people practices.  Everyone is valued for their contribution and the sense of team along with the commitment to business goals is strong across all roles.”

The gold standard means we are part of the top 7% of accredited organisations across the UK who believe in realising the potential of their people and as Susan said, all members of the team are valued for their contribution which means all members of the team are responsible for our success – so well done everyone. As regular readers of our blog will know, we believes in investing in our people through continued training and recently we have invested round £9,000 to ensure that our teams not only meet national guidelines but exceed them.  For example, all of our site managers have received training in asbestos awareness, SMSTS and first aid – pretty standard stuff. However, we have gone further by making sure all 17 of our site managers are also qualified in construction site management to NVQ level 6 which is equivalent to a foundation degree. Also unique is our decision to ensure that all our 12 resident liaison officers are trained to stand in for site managers in their short term absence which means they have to qualify in SMSTS, site supervising and first aid. They all have.

So well done to all of our staff for their collective involvement to achieving gold and to individuals who continue to work hard in their own professional development that ultimately contribute to the overall success of the company.
