Housing Market Renewal

The Housing Market Renewal Programme was designed to tackle the problems of neighbourhoods with acute low housing demand. In such neighbourhoods, the high concentrations of difficult to let or sell properties, the loss of population and the inability to attract new households had created neighbourhood decline and deprivation.

The Government launched the programme in 2002 across nine ‘pathfinder’ areas across the North of England and Midlands. The Programme aims to improve the quality of the physical infrastructure of the neighbourhoods concerned, through a combination of demolition, new build and refurbishment.

Since 2002, Emanuel Whittaker have carried out hundreds of Group Repair and Face Lifting refurbishment schemes to private sector properties across Greater Manchester and East Lancashire, on behalf of five local authorities.
