This is just what we did with residents living at the Broomedge sheltered housing complex in Broughton, Salford, where we have been working on behalf of Salix Homes on a half a million pounds scheme to improve tenants’ homes.

Our team have been on site for over six months ripping out and refitting kitchens and bathrooms and where relevant upgrading wiring and doors.

The tenants

are elderly and some of them are quite vulnerable and so this type of work is by its nature quite disruptive. It’s part of my job to keep tenants and their families fully informed and of course help them out should they have any worries or concerns.

The improvement scheme has seen 29 homes in the main building and a further 16 cottage flats overhauled and as well as work on individual homes the communal lounge was also given a makeover.

Externally, the main building has been cladded to give it a fresh, new look and the old roof has been replaced. The laundry room has also been refurbished, the patio has been extended and fire retardant letter boxes have been fitted.

Feedback and satisfaction has been excellent, running at 100% and Carole and Charles Wood’s comments are typical. Carole says she feels like she has been given a new lease of life, because everything is now practical and simple. She and Charles are delighted and proud of their new kitchen and bathroom.

Mike Copple, is Chairman of the Broomedge Residents Association, and he has also been impressed with the standard of service. He said: “Emanuel Whittaker staff have gone more than the extra mile in ensuring as far as possible that inconvenience to the residents was minimised and where issues arose they were dealt with in a caring and sensitive manner.”

We are really proud of the completed scheme as are Salix Homes and most importantly the residents.  As you can see from the photographs our bit of a ‘do’ was a fabulous afternoon and once again it’s a case of a job well done and another satisfied customer. The Broomedge tenants are a great bunch and we were sorry to leave.

Now our team is off to Southgarth for a new challenge!
