Like everyone else, Emanuel Whittaker is determined to be leaner, healthier and more active in 2016.

Clients:  Thankfully we have a full order book and continue to be as busy as ever despite facing some difficult economic times.  Our primary business remains the refurbishment of social homes and our main clients remain social housing associations and local authorities.  We are very proud of the fact that we have been able to work with many clients on a long terms basis due to our keen price, quality workforce and consistently high tenant satisfaction.  In 2016, we will continue to offer the best service we can to our existing clients as well as develop relationship with a new client base.

Environment:  We have a robust environmental management system which is assessed against the ISO14001 Standard and as such we look to recycle across our head office and regional site offices.  Recycling is something all our staff look to do on a daily basis, from reusing old fence panels and paving stones, to giving our head office wooden pallets to a local scout site for their camp fire – the more innovative the better.  This year we will continue recycling and develop other clever ideas that avoid throwing items away.

Investing in our staff:  We were delighted when in 2015, Emanuel Whittaker was awarded the Investors in People Gold standard which is recognised across the world as championing best practice in people management.  Our assessor said we value everyone for their contribution and that the sense of team, along with the commitment to business goals is strong across all roles.  Last year, all 17 of our site managers qualified in construction site management to NVQ level 6 which is equivalent to a foundation degree.  Also unique was our decision that all resident liaison officers should be trained to stand in for site managers in their short term absence which means they qualified in SMSTS, site supervising and first aid. We intend to build on our successes by looking at ways we can support and invest further in our teams across the company to ensure they not only meet, but exceed their own personal and professional goals.

Training Young People:  We are very proud of our record in working with and training young people largely through our award winning apprenticeship training programme.  In 2015, we recruited another 5 construction sector apprentices (joiners, plumbers, bricklayers etc.).  The majority of apprenticeships are for 2 years with the young people spending most of their time on site being mentored by our experienced staff and one day a week at college. In 2016, we will continue to work with clients and our partner Procure Plus to take on new apprentices

Finally, we would not be able to operate a profitable and well respected business without the support of our dedicated staff and sub-contractors and because our clients continue to give Emanuel Whittaker their valued business.  Here’s to a great 2016 everyone.
