Step back in time…

Jun 27, 2021

Victoria Square, built in 1889 to house mill workers, was the first purpose built housing in the country. It is now, justifiably, a listed building for its architectural and historic significance.

The Emanuel Whittaker site team have been carrying out fire stopping works on the building. Whilst working, they have been uncovering some interesting artefacts that expose the history of this great Ancoats landmark…

Firstly, the team uncovered a piano book in the loft space that they suspect is from 1937. The treasured book has some hand written notes inside, an unusual find in such a tenement block?

The team also found a notice of increase of rent rates whilst doing a front door replacement.  The notice is dated 1957 and addressed to 260 Victoria square… but there is no number 260.

What an interesting insight into the building, we just had to share with you.

THANK YOU

Jun 27, 2021

Sarah Isaac of Lower Bamford Close, was very complimentary on her customer satisfaction form… “I really appreciate the work done, it is like a mood lifter for me, I was a bit depressed due to the pandemic, but when they came to do this job I was very happy. The team were very good and a big thanks to the liaison officer Garry, he is super fantastic! The team are very polite, always inform of what they want to do next, very professional, Well done!!”

Sarah even went as far as texting to pay a further compliment which read “Garry you have done very well, there was no pressure nor stress of any kind on our time and availability, good communication at every stage of the refurbishment, really appreciate it all. Keep the good job up, the professionalism was second to none. Well done and thank you once again”.

Sarah also stopped Garry whilst he was carrying out his daily site inspections to hand him a gift. He explained that the team were unable to accept gifts, although it was very kind. However, Sarah insisted, stating that she would be extremely offended and that she had already explained on her satisfaction form about the positive impact the works has had on her daily outlook… how could he refuse?

Census Relief

May 25, 2021

The Emanuel Whittaker site team have recently completed the installation of a new shower room for Together Housing resident Marjorie Rowney.

Whilst carrying out her routine daily visits, Resident Liaison Officer, Louise Whittaker noticed that Marjorie appeared a little upset following delivery of a reminder regarding her Census information.

Despite being a sprightly 93 year old, Marjorie struggles with her hearing and eye sight, and isn’t too savvy with the internet.  However, she firmly believed that she had completed her Census over the telephone, so was somewhat anxious when she received a reminder.

Louise was happy to offer to help. After making Marjorie aware about divulging personal information, Louise completed the Census online, and put Marjorie’s mind at rest.

Marjorie was very grateful, and sent the team a lovely card, thanking Louise for her kindness and Together Housing for her lovely shower room.

Marjorie told the team that she even enjoyed the experience of having the shower room fitted, as she explained… she hadn’t seen anyone for over a year!
